Hi everyone! It was a four day week, and I was out for the count for two of them, but Mrs Albright held down the fort like a pro and made it possible for the kids to have all kinds of pumpkin fun!
She taught them the parts of a pumpkin… inside and out.

Then the kids got to reach into the pumpkin and pull the seeds from the fibrous strands (a fancy word for pumpkin goo!).

She also guided the children in making an hypothesis and an actual observation regarding whether a pumpkin sinks or floats. The kids loved this experiment and were surprised to learn that pumpkins, in fact, float!

In Writer’s Workshop, we took a break from narrative storytelling to think about nonfiction writing. This week, we worked together to label some pumpkin pictures. But next week, the kids will give it a shot independently!

We also learned the letter, sound, and formation for lowercase d and s. In math, we built stairs to represent the continuing pattern of one more and also of one less.

On Kindergarten Magic Day, we painted pumpkins, made popsicle stick puppets for a pumpkin poem, formed silly pumpkin shapes with play-doh, and played a roll and stamp game. Mrs Albright even planted the pumpkin seeds with the class that we removed and counted from yesterday. What a pumpkin-filled day!

Next week, we’ll study bats and spiders! Many people associate these creatures with spooky season, but when you get to know them, they’re pretty interesting!
