It finally feels like fall, which is a good thing since this week the pumpkins arrived at LEAP and also in our classrooms!

The children have shown endless creativity using them outside; they are bowls, babies, and balls, ingredients for soup, casseroles, and pies.

In math this week we finished all the poems through 9 and practiced writing those numerals. (See below!) We continued using a group of five plus some more to identify numbers between 6 and 10 without counting by ones.

Additionally, we continued accurate counting with a fun play-doh squish and count Halloween activity.

We learned the proper formation and sounds for the lowercase letters a and g. (Both start by making a c!) To help the kids build their muscle memory for the handwriting strokes we practiced the letters in rice and also in shaving cream.

This month I have the ability to do even more involved learning activities with our class because there are two teachers in the room all day! Mrs Albright teaches preschool at Loveli Foundations and is completing her bachelors in early childhood education through Carlow University. Here’s what she wrote about herself:
Hello! I'm Mrs. Albright, and I'm currently in my 10th year of teaching. I've had the pleasure of working with all age groups in a childcare center, but my heart lies with PreK, where I've spent the last eight years. I'm also in my senior year at Carlow, pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education. I live in Greensburg with my husband and two dogs, and we enjoy hiking when the weather is nice. I'm excited to join the Kindergarten class for a month and look forward to the learning and growth ahead!
I hope you’ll join me in welcoming Mrs Albright to our kindergarten community!
Here are some photos of us sharing something we made. Our focus today was using a big teacher voice so that our friends could hear us. They did a great job!

Next week we will learn all about the life cycle of a pumpkin as well as how they are harvested and grown, ending in a Pumpkin Palooza on Kindergarten Magic Day!
