Between the butterfly’s arrival, our past trip to Winnie Palmer, and the warm insect-friendly weather, it’s been bug mania at LEAP this week! We used what we learned at Winnie to tip over stumps and reveal a whole host of living things!

This week we kept most of our ELA and math routines the same. We worked on accurately punctuating sentences and on writing them with spaces while sounding out each word. In math we learned a new card game and wrote equations to match word problem. Even with all that hard work, we still had time for some ABC countdown fun!

Monday was Hat Day!

On Tuesday, it was I for imagination. We read a book called Not a Box and then used our imaginations to change a 2D box into something else.
We also began working on our parts for some Reader’s Theater scripts. Each child was assigned a part and we worked first to decode them and then to become more and more fluent with every re-read. The kids tried reading their parts along with a recording of my voice on an iPad. They are at the point right now that re-reading as well as reading along with another more experienced reader can really push them to new levels. Stay tuned for more about Reader’s Theater!

What kind of garden has giggles coming from it all day?
A kinder-garden! (Especially on Joke Day!)

We read all three of Mo Willem’s funny and tender Knuffle Bunny series (pronounced k-nuffle). More great titles to look for this summer!

In addition to Lunch at the playground today, we had a great trip to the Westmoreland Museum of Art! We moved between several different galleries and talked and listened thoughtfully about art. We even got to make some self portraits! The kids were very respectful, and I was proud of our soon to be first grade little Golden Lions!
Thanks to everyone who volunteered to make this trip a success. We couldn’t do it without you!
