There is nothing like starting a full week of kindergarten with leprechaun shenanigans and a full day of scheming... but we did it!
When we got to school, we noticed that many important green things in our classroom were mysteriously missing! Ask your child what was gone.
We tried to carry on calmly with our day, but when the leprechaun stole all the green cubes we needed for our Word Play time, we finally had it! We planned traps and built the following creative solutions...

When we arrived back in the room after music class, we were shocked to find all our traps broken and green tinsel scattered about. Take a listen below (at your own risk 😉 ).
You might think a week starting like that couldn't be salvaged, but maybe the leprechaun left us a little luck, because we got a lot done this week. The students are at the point where I can give them a book to read completely independently. Pictured below, the kids read a new text carefully to themselves three times in a row to build word recognition and fluency. Then, using the Voice Memo app on their iPads, they recorded themselves reading the book and listened back.
When your child brings home the little black and white readers, you can use this same strategy to give them a purpose for practice. Have them read the book until it sounds smooth and then record themselves reading it aloud.

Today we had our much anticipated field trip to Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve! We broke all the kindergartners into many groups and engaged in the a lot of interesting learning experiences around the concept of insects!
