This week in kindergarten we continued practicing reading words, sentences, and books all together and in small groups. We listened for sounds in words and wrote them using proper handwriting strokes. I’ve said it before, but it bears saying again: reading is HARD work. Decoding one word at a time is one thing; decoding word after word is entirely another. I applaud the kiddos for sticking with a hard task and not giving up!

In math we continue to decompose a total into 2 or more smaller parts. Ask your child how to play the game Shake Those Disks. (In this game, student shake and spill a cup of two sided chips and write a number bond that shows the total number of chips and the two parts inside of it.)
Luckily in our room, it’s never all work and no play. Check out some photos of our kindergarten creations throughout this week!

Today was red, white, and blue day! We read a book and discussed the role of the president. We even wrote about what we would do if we were president and imagined ourselves in the role with a self portrait.
