Kindergarten begins tomorrow, Monday August 26! This week will be a long one with 5 days on the calendar, and so we will take it easy here with lots of games and play breaks. While I ease kids into the routine at school, you can do the same at home by keeping your schedule as simplified as you are able for the first few months of school. You can also make the transition easier by:

  • 🚌 Trying to keep your child's car or bus routine the same on the way to and from school, if you are able.

  • 👕 🍳 Follow the same wake up/dress/breakfast routine daily. If your child is struggling, let me know and I can give you a check sheet with visuals for him or her to physically check off.

  • 🎒 Make a designated place for your child's backpack and yellow folder so that every day they come home and follow the same steps to ensure you get it. I recommend having a spot for them to place the folder so that you can empty it, because at school every morning they will take it out of their backpacks and refill it on their own. This instills responsibility for their things instead of the idea that the adults around them will take care of it.

Here is a little video of myself greeting the kids and reading The Night Before Kindergarten. Whether your child is raring to go or has a belly full of butterflies, watch this together to get ready for tomorrow.

If your child is struggling with the kindergarten transition, please reach out! As a team, we can work together to make it as smooth as possible!
